Mama Africa

I think am losing my poetic touch, so I am going to take a break. I was toying with the idea of writing an elegy for Makeba,but all I could come up with is this acrostic,mirror cinquain in free verse.

There used to be a time when all I needed was a phrase and a poem would be in the offing.

It quite simply doesn’t happen anymore!

I need a new perspective.I should get another anthology. What’s the name of the poet who wrote Men love chocolate but they don’t say?

Mama,

Ablaze with love,

Morn star of Soweto

And true empress of Africa:

Afield!

Fine tears,

Roll down, seeking pursed and sad lips

In light of Ma’s journey;

Crossed it she has,

And gone!

    @Pete’s mama: It’s just that I take longer to ‘fabricate’ my poems. I used to write up to 5 poems a day and I had ideas floating around in my head; overflowing!

    But now, I struggle to finish them.
    May be it’s natural, and this is my low,…I don’t know. I ‘ve heard of that peak and bottom shit and am starting to believe in it..

    Thanks Apr9 & Princess; thanx y’all…for the encouragement…
